Bogenschneider Worldwide Family Reunion
Approximately 70 Bogenschneider family members and their descendants attended the first Worldwide Bogenschneider Family Reunion in conjunction with Pommerntag on the last Sunday of June, June 29, 2008, from noon to 6 p.m. at the Mequon City Park, 11333 North Cedarburg Street, Mequon, Wisconsin, USA.
Pommerntag is the annual celebration of Pomeranian heritage hosted by the Pommerscher Verein Freistadt (Pomeranian Society of Freistadt). Pomerania was a province in Prussia and Germany until World War II. People come from all over the United States and Germany to celebrate their ethnic Pomeranian heritage. The entertainment included the music of the Alte Kameraden Band and the beautiful dancing of the Pommersche Tanzdeel Freistadt. Pomeranian food was available for purchase, and included sausages, roast pork, kraut, German potato salad, and the uniquely Pomeranian cherry soup (Kirschsuppe) and many of the excellent Pomeranian desserts. Beer and soft drinks were also available. For family pictures from the reunion, click on Bogenschneider 2008 Family Reunion Photos.
The Bogenschneider family gathered at Pommerntag to celebrate their Pomeranian heritage, and to bring together the various branches of the Bogenschneider family in the U.S. and in Germany. Genealogical information on the family was available. Such a worldwide gathering of Bogenschneider family members has never been held before, and it was a great opportunity to meet individuals who shared our family heritage.
